The Browns Guesthouse has been running for over 50 years. It was opened in 1968 as a traditional British guest house and was the childhood home of current owner Jess.
In 2016, Jess took over management of Browns. She refurbished the 10 bedrooms and opened up the ground floor areas and gardens (which were previously used as a breakfast space and private family rooms) into SILVIE, an independent neighbourhood cafe.
Browns Guesthouse is relaxed, modern & comfortable. Bedrooms are simple & fresh, with a mix of antique & retro furniture, thoughtfully curated design pieces & original artworks by local artists.
Although breakfast is not included in the cost of the rooms, SILVIE serves a seasonally changing menu plus homemade counter bakes. We have become a favourite of Oxford locals for our delicous food, relaxed cosy atmosphere, our famous cinnamon buns and Rosie, the resident cat!
Community & Ethics
Both SIlVIE and Browns always think local, working with local farmers, butchers, bakers, soap makers (sounds a bit like a nursery rhyme but true) plus local coffee roasters, wine merchants, artists and many other wonderful and clever local residents.
We strive to give back to our community by working with creatives and charities within the area including artists, theatres, community initiatives, and other like-minded individuals.
